If you like your mod­ernism with a gen­er­ous dose of whim­sy, the play­ful, fan­ci­ful Marsh­mal­low Sofa, designed by George Nel­son and Irv­ing Harp­er for the famed Her­man Miller Fur­ni­ture Com­pa­ny, could be the per­fect addi­tion to your liv­ing room. Just look­ing at the unusu­al design – com­prised of 18 padded cir­cles seem­ing­ly ​“float­ing” atop a steel frame – is bound to bring a smile to your face. Luck­i­ly, the sofa’s off­beat looks don’t mean your smile will fade the moment you final­ly decide to stop look­ing at it and actu­al­ly sit on it. Accord­ing to the 1956 Her­man Miller cat­a­logue, which intro­duced the Marsh­mal­low Sofa, ​“Despite its aston­ish­ing appear­ance, this piece is very com­fort­able”. As if sit­ting on a bunch of marsh­mal­lows could be any­thing but easy on your bum.
