Barcelona Side Table
Design inspired by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe
Mies van der Rohe designed the Pavilion Table’s simple, stylish metal base, fitted with a solitary square of toughened glass, to be a statement of modern design – and it is. The Pavilion Table is a perfect representation of its designer’s famous maxim: ‘less is more’.
Eileen Gray E1027 Side Table
Design inspired by Eileen Gray
If you could design a perfect side table, what might it be? You’d no doubt want it to be great looking, with sleek, modern lines, and made from the finest materials. It would be nice if it were easily portable and usable in a variety of settings – next to an armchair in the living room, perched by the bedside, even perhaps outdoors on a terrace. And wouldn’t it be cool if the table were adjustable, so that it could be raised or lowered depending on where and how it was being used? And for that matter, what if it could walk over to the fridge and grab you a beer? Obviously we’re getting a little over the top with the walking and beer procurement. But the point is that Eileen Gray’s E1027 side table was designed to do everything else. And what’s even more amazing? This miraculously modern table was created over 80 years ago.
