Nearly 80 years after its debut at 1929’s Salon D’Automne in Paris, Le Corbusier’s Le Petit Confort 3-Seater Sofa remains a sought-after piece in well-furnished offices and living rooms everywhere.
Of course, eight decades ago, when the more ornate lines of Art Nouveau and Art Deco were still all the rage, a sofa with a tubular steel frame placed on the outside of plain leather cushions was a rather revolutionary idea. But the blending of the clean lines of modernism with the comfort of the traditional club chair and other overstuffed pieces – which was the design objective of Le Corbusier’s LC2 (Petit Confort) and LC3 (Grand Confort) collections – worked beautifully, and the pieces became instant and enduring classics. It’s slightly scaled down and more compact design makes Le Petit Confort 3-seater an ideal choice for apartments and smaller living rooms.

Le Corbusier was one named one of the most influential figures of the 20th Century by Time magazine, largely because of his futuristic (and sometimes unworkable) ideas about architecture and urban planning. He was the founder of the International Style of architecture, and his furniture designs were created to bring that same modern, functional aesthetic into the furniture arena. When designing furniture, his primary concern was creating pieces that would “serve the limbs” of the people who used it. Clearly, he succeeded spectacularly, as many of his pieces have become modernist icons.
To own a Le Corbusier petit Confort 3-seater is to possess something that is both timeless and modern, that reflects both the ideals of an earlier era and a sensibility that is absolutely current, fresh and new today. Few other designs have stood the test of time this well. But then, few other furniture designers had the same impact on the way we live today as Le Corbusier.
At Iconic Interiors we are committed to bringing you the cream of modern furniture design. The design of every item we supply has stood the test of time, looking as fresh and contemporary today as the day it was first conceived.
