The EA 217 Soft Pad Chair is part of the famous Soft Pad Group, which was designed in 1969 as a luxurious addition to the Aluminium Group collection of chairs. Taking the aluminium frame and technological innovation made famous by the Aluminium Group of chairs, the Soft Pad Group of chairs adds sumptuous, square cushions for luxury and comfort, whilst remaining true to the original minimalist silhouette.

Just like the Aluminium Group, the Soft Pad Group of chairs benefits from highly original and intelligent use of materials and technology. Husband-and-wife design team, the Eames are well-known for their ground-breaking ideas and innovative manufacturing processes. Indeed, their use of aluminium, a relatively new material in the 1950s, to design furniture was highly unusual, but led to some of the most elegant and durable chairs ever produced.
