The Plywood Group of chairs by Charles & Ray Eames were a series of chairs combining different base frames with plywood shells. From the original LCM Lounge Chair, with a chrome leg base, they developed the DCW – or Dining Chair Wood. In this configuration the seat, backrest and leg structure were created from the groundbreaking moulded plywood technique originally developed by the Eames in the spare room of their New York apartment.
Unlike its brothers and sisters which utilised the contrast between bright chrome and earthy wood, the DCW is an effortless stream of natural contours in pure organic plywood.
It evokes the pioneering entrepreneurial spirit of its creators in its breathtaking simplicity, whilst oozing sophisticated cool. A triumph of art and design, the DCW showcases both Charles Eames’ architectural background and his artistic flair with sensual, flowing lines. It is a perfect marriage of influences: artistic passion and genius of construction.
